How to let members delete their own account on Wix (and their contact, for GDPR)
A Delete Account button for your members' account page, with a two-step confirmation

To let members delete their own account on Wix, install Delete Member Account from the Wix App Market and place its Delete Account Button on your members' account page: logged-in members see what will be deleted, confirm twice, and Wix deletes their account and logs them out. Wix itself has no such button on the site, so without an app members have to email you or leave through the Spaces app.
Wix's own help center lists "Allowing Members to Delete Their Own Accounts" as a feature request. Until then, the options are an app, deleting each member by hand when they ask, or writing Velo code; all three are covered below.
- Members delete their own account in two steps: a Delete Account button on your site, with a second step that lists what will be deleted.
- Also delete their contact for GDPR requests (name, email address, phone and notes), in the free plan.
- A short message, then the page you choose: members arrive logged out on your home page or a goodbye page.
- A deletion record that keeps no names or emails: each deletion is listed with the time and what happened to the contact. Pro also asks members why they are leaving and shows each reason in the record.
- Your own wording or built-in text in 13 languages.
Add a delete account button to your Wix site in four steps
We made Delete Member Account for this (GRAMSHIFT, on the Wix App Market). It works with your site's own members, so nothing changes for how people sign up or log in.
- Install Delete Member Account. Your site needs Wix Members (site members who can log in) and the CMS.
- In the Editor, go to the page where members manage their account, such as My Account. Click Add Elements, then App Widgets (or My Apps), and drag the Delete Account Button onto the page. A regular page works too; then link to it from your member menu.
- Publish your site.
- In your dashboard, open the app's page to choose the page members go to afterwards, change the wording if you like, and turn on "Also delete their contact". Click Save.
From then on, a logged-in member who presses the button sees the login email of the account, what will be deleted and a note that orders, bookings and messages may stay with you. Nothing is deleted until they press Delete Account a second time. Wix then deletes their member account and logs them out; in our tests on a live site, the message "Your account has been deleted." appeared about two seconds later and the member was taken to the home page, logged out.
What members see
Logged-out visitors see a short line asking them to log in, with a Log In button that opens your site's login window; once they log in, the button appears without reloading the page. The built-in wording follows each visitor's language (13 languages), or you can write your own button text, confirmation title and text, and message after deletion.
One thing to know about members-only pages such as My Account: when such a page is opened directly, by typing its address or reloading it, Wix sometimes doesn't finish loading app widgets. After a few seconds the button says so and offers Open Again, which opens the page through your site and shows the button. Opened from the member menu, or placed on a regular page, the button loads right away.
GDPR requests: the account and the contact
Deleting a site member doesn't remove the contact Wix keeps for that person in your Contacts. Turn on "Also delete their contact" and the app deletes that contact (name, email address, phone and notes) right after the account. If it can't, the record says so and offers a Delete contact button to try again.
Orders, bookings and invoices stay with your site, as tax and accounting rules usually require. Tell members in your privacy policy how to ask you about those. Site owners and collaborators can't delete their own account with the button: Wix doesn't allow it, and the button tells them so.
Plans and privacy
The free plan includes the button, the two-step confirmation, contact deletion, the page after deletion, your own wording and the record of deletions. Pro asks members why they are leaving, with a short list of reasons they can skip, and shows each reason in the record.
The app keeps its settings and the record in your site's own CMS and sends nothing to us. The record holds the time, the reason if one was given, and whether the contact was deleted; it never holds a name or an email address, and rows older than a year are removed.
What Wix can do on its own
As the site owner, you can delete a member in your dashboard's member list, one at a time, when they ask you by email or through a form. Members who use Wix's Spaces app can leave a site there, but that means asking them to install an app.
With code
A developer can build a button with Velo code. It then has to show only to logged-in members, ask for confirmation, handle the site owner's case, delete the contact separately, send the member somewhere afterwards and speak your visitors' languages, and you write and maintain all of that yourself.
For approving members, see How to approve Wix members automatically.
Which way to choose
- Members delete their own account, and their contact too, without code: Delete Member Account. The button and contact deletion are free.
- Only a few requests a year: delete each member and their contact by hand in your dashboard.
- You write code and are happy to maintain it: your own button in Velo.
Frequently asked questions
How do I let members delete their own account on my Wix site?
Install Delete Member Account from the Wix App Market and add its Delete Account Button to the page where members manage their account, such as My Account. Logged-in members press it, see what will be deleted, confirm twice, and Wix deletes their member account and logs them out. No code is needed.
How do I add a delete account button to the Wix members area?
In the Editor, open My Account (or a regular page linked from the member menu), click Add Elements, add the Delete Account Button from Delete Member Account and publish. You can change its wording and choose the page members see after deletion on the app's dashboard page.
How do I handle a GDPR request to delete a member's data on Wix?
Turn on "Also delete their contact" in Delete Member Account. When the member deletes their account, the contact Wix keeps for them (name, email, phone and notes) is deleted with it. Orders, bookings and invoices stay with your site, as tax and accounting rules usually require.
Can members delete their Wix account without contacting me?
Yes. With Delete Member Account, members delete their own account from your site in any browser, and you see the time of each deletion in your dashboard. The app keeps no name or email address of people who left.
Is it free, and what does Pro add?
The free plan includes the button, the two-step confirmation, contact deletion, the page after deletion, your own wording and the record of deletions. Pro asks members why they're leaving and shows each reason in the record.
