Jewelry Pricing Calculator

To price handmade jewelry, add up what one piece costs you - beads, wire, findings and waste, your time at an hourly wage, tool wear, packaging and a share of your monthly costs - then multiply: total cost x 2 = wholesale, and wholesale x 2 = retail. Below the price you see what is left after Etsy fees and postage, and you can switch to a target profit or check the price you charge now.

The Jewelry Pricing Calculator workbook on Etsy uses the same math as this page and adds:

  • Silver and gold by weight: type the troy ounce price you paid and weigh each design in grams or pennyweights.
  • Beads by the piece, wire and chain by the foot and used by the inch - converted for you.
  • Earring cards and display cards as materials, with a row for your packaging cost.
  • Each design built from a recipe picked from dropdown lists, with finished examples to start from.
  • Every design on one Price List: cost, wholesale, retail, fees, postage, profit and profit per hour.

Questions

What is the formula for pricing jewelry?

Total cost x 2 = wholesale and wholesale x 2 = retail, where total cost is materials + waste, your time x your wage, tool wear, packaging, shipping supplies and a share of your monthly costs. Change both multipliers, or price for a target profit instead.

How much should I charge for a handmade necklace?

In the example, a hand-knotted pearl necklace with $14.86 of materials and 1 h 50 min of work costs $54.54, so it sells for $110 wholesale and $220 retail - $143.22 profit after Etsy fees and postage.

How do I price earrings I make several pairs at a time?

Type how many pieces you make in one sitting, then the minutes and materials for the whole batch. They are shared over the pieces; packaging and postage stay per piece.

Should I include tool wear in jewelry prices?

Yes, it is small but real: a $30 set of pliers that lasts about 200 pieces is $0.15 a piece. Type it under "Tool wear".

Which Etsy fees are counted?

The transaction fee of 6.5% of the item price and the shipping you charge, payment processing of 3% of what the buyer pays (sales tax included) plus $0.25, and the $0.20 listing fee - Etsy US rates as of October 2026. Open "Etsy fees and sales tax" to change any rate, or set them to 0 for a cash sale at a market.
